Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(lively music) - Hi, this is Joe Wos from Cartoon Academy.
And this is a quick draw lesson on drawing tools.
Have you ever seen a toolbox?
Think of the things that are inside of a toolbox.
There might be a hammer, or a wrench or a screwdriver.
These are tools we use to build or fix something.
Well cartoonist have drawing tools that we use as well.
Let me show you a few.
This is a felt tip marker.
There are different kinds of thicknesses of felt tip markers, and they give you a different kind of line.
This is a thin line.
This is the marker I use in all our classes.
It's got a nice, bold felt tip.
So it gives a bold line that everyone can see.
Nice and clean and crisp.
(lively music) If you like to sketch, you might use a pencil.
With a pencil, you can get a thin light line, or a darker heavier line, depending on how heavy you press the pencil.
You can also get a more sketchy kind of line with a different texture.
(lively music) This is a lead pencil, and you have to press very lightly with this because if you press too hard, it might snap right in half.
But the nice thing is, you don't have to sharpen it because you just push a button, and there's a little more lead for you.
(lively music) Lastly, is a crayon.
This is simply used to color, and you can use it to draw too.
Again, depending on the pressure, you can get a light line or a thick, heavy line, or you can even use the side of the crayon to get a double line with the bottom to get a very thick line.
(lively music) There's no right or wrong way to draw cartoons.
And there are no right or wrong tools.
It's whatever you like to use best.
There's no wrong way to draw.
These are a few of my favorite tools to use drawing.
And you should try out lots of different ones, because you might find something that fits you perfectly.
This has been a Cartoon Academy quick draw lesson.
