Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - Hi, we're at Square Cafe in East Liberty and I'm Sherree Goldstein, the owner.
We opened in Regent Square in 2003 as a small breakfast, lunch, pastry and coffee shop.
And in October of 2020, we moved to East Liberty.
When we opened in Regent Square, we totally superseded any goals that we thought we were gonna do.
And we were growing out of our space, kind of busting at the seams, pretty much tripled our expectations.
(upbeat music) We're bright, fun, full of colors.
We cook with love and serve with love.
We pride ourselves in people feeling that when they come in.
We do local art every month.
We sell it right off the wall.
Some artists seem to sell a lot of art and some artists just want to be seen.
You know, we could have 10,000 eyes on it in one month.
(upbeat music) Bestseller by far is the brussels sprout hash.
We make it on a bed of cheesy grits and it's brussels sprouts, mushrooms, shallots, all sauteed together with an egg on top.
And it is known throughout Pittsburgh.
We also sell a ton of lemon berry ricotta pancakes.
We sell pumpkin walnut pancakes.
We do vegan and gluten-free pancakes.
We also have a lot of lunch options.
So we do fire braised chicken.
We also have a full coffee bar, coffee drinks, non-coffee drinks, non espresso drinks.
We have milkshakes, smoothies.
When we moved to East Liberty, we got a liquor license.
So now we're making spirited, brunchy cocktails and beverages and that's been super fun for us.
- I think this place has a great vibe.
It's energetic, but kind of laid back at the same time.
We're always pretty busy.
And sometimes I come in six o'clock in the morning, turn around, seems like the day's over.
We've been so busy.
- It was kind of like a little pipe dream.
I thought I'd have a cool little cafe with coffee, pastries, culture, and it morphed into something more than I ever could have imagined.
And it's still morphing and we're still growing.
So we don't even know what is gonna bloom for us in the next couple of years or even couple of months.
