Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(happy music) - [Jessica] The dogs pull their owners in, even if they've never been in here.
Just instinctively they know that this store is for them.
My name is Jessica Kury, and I am the owner of Salty Paws Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh's first doggy ice cream bar and bakery.
We have 12 different homemade ice creams.
The flavors are very geared towards dogs, like bacon, maple bacon, cheddar cheese, carob, vanilla, peanut butter.
If they tell me their dog likes fruit, then I go towards the banana or the blueberry, and then from there, I create four specialties that I rotate.
(ambient music) Everything we have is very natural, very limited ingredient, very high-quality.
- We come here frequently, as a resident of the community, delighted to have the store here, and Copper for sure is a huge fan.
(ambient music) - [Jessica] There's so much more in the store.
The baked goods, the chew treats.
We've got toys, collars, and leashes, and I do try to run a couple events a month.
Fun things to get the community engaged.
(happy music) - Ryan and Violet, are our service dogs in training for the nonprofit Canine Companions.
- Due to volunteer puppy raisers like ourselves, we pay for basically everything for someone who may need a service dog.
Today is actually Violet's first birthday, and we heard really great things about Salty Paws, so we were like, this is the perfect time.
- I had worked at the Humane Society for a lot of years, had been involved in rescue, and to have a dog ice cream store, where I saw dogs at their happiest.
I've loved every step, and I've loved every process of this journey.
(happy music)
