Gather around.
Just together.
Right here.
Get.
Get real tight.
Oh, great.
Great.
Yep.
Everybody get in here.
So I'm gonna have.
I'm gonna ask everyone a question.
Everyone who's a cancer survivor, raise your hand.
Unbelievable.
Unbelievable.
My water, myself.
All my equipment.
All right.
Are you ready?
Ladies, are you ready?
Ready?
Let's go.
Sometimes when I'm out here... So at one point, we're gonna.
We're gonna keep the box together in the back.
I'm gonna take these sponges home again and wash them.
SONIA: I have had breast cancers three times.
I've had thyroid cancer once.
Three times I've had chemo.
Three times I've had radiation.
And it's been pretty rough.
But this team saved my life.
It really did.
Let's take it up.
Go.
Go to your catch.
Drop your bodies all the way in there.
Slow it down.
The other boat.
Drag.
All right, paddles up.
Easy.
Go.
SONIA: I've never been one to join a group therapy things.
But this is my therapy.
When we walk down this dock, we talk about our cancer.
And we do discuss.
Hey, do you know this doctor?
Do you know who can help me?
That's great, but when we're on this boat, we don't talk about it.
And you're paddling in the river and you're bringing your paddle into that water.
It's like you're cutting into the cancer.
It's just you don't even think about it.
And you just feel so strong with the people that are here because you look at them and say, okay, everybody has been there and they're out here surviving, so why can't I?
Pen easy, go!
PADDLER: I come out here three days a week because I enjoy the camaraderie of of other paddlers, of other cancer survivors.
And it's a fabulous workout.
I'll be 74 in 2 weeks and Im in the best shape that I'd probably been in in my life.
OTHER PADDLER: To be with these really powerful women is so encouraging, and it makes us all, like, just so much happier that we're able to survive and get out there on a boat and work our butts off.
SONIA: Get your blades in there!
Get your catch.
Pole to your hip.
This team here it is just a group of strong, hardcore women that's going to pick you off your feet and say, all right, you're going to be okay.
Get in your boat.
Let's go.
It was my second round of cancer, and after I had my mastectomy and I had my surgeries, I couldn't really paddle.
And my teammates said, no, you can't paddle, but you can come.
And I would sit in the back of the boat, couldn't paddle, but they paddled for me.
Keep it up!
And those are the moments that makes this team be so close to my heart.
PADDLER: How do yall feel?
EVERYONE: Like steel!
PADDLER: How do yall feel?
EVERYONE: Like steel!
PADDLER: How do yall feel?
EVERYONE: Like steel!
SONIA: Its getting chilly.
We got to warm it up.
See?
All right.
Paddles up.
Yeah.
Let it run.
