Maybe you're flying into Pittsburgh for the first time.
Maybe you grew up here and never left.
Or maybe life took you somewhere else and you left this region long ago.
Well, folks have come to western Pennsylvania.
Even ones who've traveled far from home seldom forget the landscape.
Gentle mountains, sometimes colored with October leaves, seem to go on forever.
In.
Neighborhoods nestled in hills that roll away from an unforgettable skyline.
Seeing it all from above only makes this place all the more special.
We're exploring Pittsburgh from the air and we start in autumn.
Some of the best things about Pennsylvania are the trees.
Nearly 60% of the state is covered with forest.
But sometimes trees can be a challenge.
That's a giant saw hanging at the end of that cable.
As this crew working for West Penn Power cuts branches that grew too close to electrical lines.
It's a risky job.
It's just one example of why the Pittsburgh region has been called the capital of work.
In 2001, a plane flew over these trees in Somerset County and many lives changed forever.
It was United Airlines Flight 93.
This is the national memorial.
Just after its dedication.
Etched on the granite wall.
The names of 40 people.
A place where people go to remember the passengers and crew who died on September 11th.
Marked forever in the nation's memory.
An act of heroism that happened here in the western Pennsylvania countryside.
Partly right now, partly down south Not construction over there.
Headed down toward the city.
On final approach.
Had over had it cleared for landing over.
It's a Friday night in the fall.
And in western Pennsylvania.
That means one thing.
High school football is everything to these players and their hometowns.
Pride and school spirit float up out of the stadium.
Years from now, we'll remember the cheers and these nights that celebrate a great Pittsburgh sports tradition.
On a spring morning in downtown Pittsburgh.
Streets are full of people.
Some 25,000 in all.
Runners from around the world who've gathered for one of the city's premier events.
The Pittsburgh Marathon.
March Not far from all the excitement.
Others have found a different way to enjoy a Sunday morning in spring.
A bike trail hugs them on river and begins the Great Allegheny Passage, winding its way to Washington, D.C.. The passage rolls away from Pittsburgh.
Beneath the green of spring.
Are discoveries on the trail and off.
